It is a medium tree of 20 to 25 feet in height and it is found in almost all the parts of India. It is highly rich in vitamin C, and is known to be the best source of it. Other than this it is rich in gallic acid, tannic acid and cellulose, etc.

How is Amla known in your area?

In Sanskrit it is known as Dhatri. In Bengali speaking States, Amla is known as amalki. In Kannada and Malayalam it is known as Nelli. In Marathi and Gujarati speaking States is known as awala.


Amla is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, due to which it is very useful in brightening of the skin and lighting of the complexion of the skin giving it a fairy touch. Amla helps in increasing the circulation of the scalps and ultimately induces the hair growth making the hairs strong and Shiny.
