In the Lost Lands, the world is so utterly fantastical that it inspires a particular kind of awe. You don’t often come across a post-apocalyptic story that follows logic, and the filmmakers of this movie have mostly ignored reason in favor of showcasing their own vision of a post-civilization world.

Whether it was Martin, screenwriter Constantin Werner, or both, they have expertly combined elements of steampunk science fiction, a traditional Western plot, fantasy elements with witches and shapeshifters, and apocalyptic politics that highlight a struggle between a supreme leader and a zealous cult of religious fanatics.
